Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking official stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
